Things the Jets need to do to beat Carolina

temp01-DefenseI--nfl_mezz_1280_1024 The Jets travel to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers in a tough- must win game for the Jets. Back to back wins have been in existence for the Jets but it can be accomplished if they go by these three keys.

1. Keep Cam Newton contained: This may be the biggest key of them all. Cam Newton is known to be dangerous when he is out of the pocket. This season alone, Cam Newton has 495 rushing yards and 6 TDs. If the Jets are able to keep Newton in the pocket and force some bad throws, defensively the Jets will have a great day.

2: Geno throw the ball more effectively: It’s been tough this season for Geno to consistently have great games. Just last week Geno had 200+ yards, 1 TD with a 88.3 passer rating and hasn’t had a good week like that in four games. Smith needs to understand that the Panthers are first in the league in rush defense so running isn’t an option and the Panthers allow the fifth most passing yards in the league. Which means he has to air the ball out a lot more with help of his offensive line and WR corps.

3. Santonio Holmes has to show up: Earlier in the week, Santonio Holmes called out the Panthers seconday, calling it their “weakest link.” Holmes hasn’t  been a standout receiver this season for the Jets minus the injuries. With all the talk he’s been doing this week, he needs to back it up and help Geno out in the passing game by racking up yards and TDs. Jeremy Kerley can’t do all the work by himself.

The Jets will have their hands full against Carolina but may even get motivation since they know that this game  determines their playoff hopes.
