1. Run the ball: I can not stress this enough. The Jets running game has been slacking these last couple of weeks and basically seems like they have deviated from the run game and decided to throw the ball more. Since Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork will be done for the season for the Patriots, Jets OC Marty Morhinweg and head coach Rex Ryan shoulder definitely consider running the ball a lot more.
2. Take advantage of the Patriots’ secondary: In addition to the run game, Geno Smith needs to exploit the Patriots’ secondary, especially with the loss of Patriots’ CB Aqib Talib. Aqib picked off Geno twice in Week two. However, Geno may be effected by the loss of WR Santonio Holmes, Rex confirmed on Friday but can still look for other targets like Kellen Winslow and others.
3. Rush Brady: Despite the Patriots high chances of having Rob Gronkowski back after he was cleared to play by doctors, the Jets should confuse Brady by mixing up the formations and shutting down Gronkowski. Earlier in the week, Rex Ryan told reporters on his plan to stop Brady, “You have to confuse Brady mentally.” Rookie DE for the Jets, Sheldon Richardson also said that the NFL baby’s Tom Brady, so all Richardson has to do is back his words up. Quinton Coples and Muhammed Wilkerson needs to also have a big game in getting to Tom Brady to frustrate him.
Expect a lot of running from the Patriots since Danny Amendola has been ruled out and Rob Gronkowski may return to the lineup. Expect the Jets to run the ball a lot as well and for Geno to bounce back after his rough performance these last couple of weeks.
